I am 20 years old and have semi curly hair. The hair were not very dense but still they were quite heavy. I have a low level of hb and I got my s. ferritin checked which was also very low. I have excessive hair loss, specially in front and sides above the ears.My hair have become almost 60-65% Can you please suggest what I should do? I am a vegetarian, but if my health demands I can consume non veg too. You need to be checked for iron loss. Ferritin is a measure of iron. You need iron to make red blood cells. If you iron is low, your body does not make enough red blood cels and you will become anemic. Vegetarians are prone to this since they do not eat red meat. Given that you are only 20 years old, the most serious causes of iron deficiency are not likely. That would be blood loss due to colon caner. Women often have a low iron level due to loss of blood from a heavy period or vaginal flow of blood each month. You probably need to have iron supplements in your diet, but also have yourself checked for more serious problems. Iron deficiency anemia is a common cause of hair loss, but it is not the only cause of hair loss. The low iron level and the anemia are a far more serious problem that you need to have evaluated by your physician immediately. If your loss is due to iron deficiency anemia, treatment will stop your hair loss. I honestly can't say that treatment will reverse your hair loss if it is due to a iron deficiency anemia.
