A sudden bald spot

Hi, I am 25 years old. Well one day I woke up and I had a silver dollar sized bald spot on the side of my head. I am scared that I might lose more of my hair. Might someone know what's going on or what I can do to try save the rest of my hair?

Very possibly this is Alopecia Areata; it very often starts this way. There is not necessarily continued loss, but there can be. See a dermatologist. Quite often these conditions respond to simple injection of medication into the hairless spot.

While there is neither a cure for alopecia Areata nor drugs approved for its treatment, some people find that medications approved for other purposes can help hair grow back, at least temporarily. Keep in mind that while these treatments may promote hair growth, none of them prevent new patches or actually cure the underlying disease.

24 years old and loosing my hair

My age is 24. I am loosing hair around the ring part in the head. It is becoming like a bold head around the ring part. I was surprised that I took
care of hair since my childhood, but I am loosing hair. Lossed hair is not getting back. Should I get that loosed hair back? or Is there any solution to get back. I loosed most of the hair when I got fever which was happened nearly 6 months back, but untill now I didn't get it back. Now also I am loosing hair. My hair gets on pillow when I wake up.

You may have pattern balding, in which case you need to see a hair specialist and possibly be on medications. A consult for possible hair transplant is also an option. However, the history of fever is interesting. You may very possibly have experienced telogen effluvium (shedding) which can occur after fever or other illness. If so, the hair often returns after a number on months, but it will not all return at once. There may be other illness which contributes to continued hair loss. A scalp biopsy may possibly be indicated.A lot of possible explanations. Best bet is a dermatologist. They will know the best tests to order including possible scalp biopsy. Telogen effluvium is possible with stress, where many of the hairs go into the resting stage at once.

Hair loss from the root

My hair falls out at the root- during the day. I can run my fingers threw my hair and it comes out at the root. After a shower I comb it and it comes out.

We all have hairs falling out "by the root" every day; about 100 to 200 on the average. They have gone into the telogen, or resting stage, and the body sheds them when grooming, combing, shampooing, etc. Only if the numbers are significantly higher than this is there a potential problem; a visit to a hair specialist will be required.

The hair growth cycle consists of three phases—anagen, the active growth phase; catagen, the transition phase; and telogen, the resting or dormant phase. When hair spends more time in the telogen phase and less in the anagen phase, the result is hair loss. Ideally used as part of an overall therapeutic program, Hair Cycle products contain several ingredients that stimulate the anagen phase to thicken the hair shaft, increase the number of growing hairs, and keep hair in the active phase for the fullest cosmetic effect.
